Discovering the Self in IFS | Pages 32-41 Walkthrough & Reflection
In this video, I’m diving into Part 2 of the Internal Family Systems Workbook by Richard Schwartz, PhD, covering pages 32 to 41.
This section brought up a lot for me, especially around dissociation, something I’ve experienced and talk about often. From trying to name my emotions over the day, week, and month to struggling with accessing joy and other rarely felt emotions, this chapter reminded me how disconnected we can become from our bodies and our feelings.
We talk about:
✨ Recognizing dissociation and emotional numbness
✨ The challenge of recalling feelings like anger or frustration
✨ Why mindfulness matters when naming emotions
✨ Wanting more access to emotions like joy
✨ How exercises like “Find, Focus, and Flesh Out” helped deepen awareness
I’m sharing my experience because I don’t want to go through this workbook alone, and I don’t want you to feel alone in it either. If you’re working through it too, or just curious about Internal Family Systems and how it applies in real life, I hope this encourages you to slow down, reflect, and stay present with yourself.
